“Though My Mom Motivated Me to Do Music, She Was Disappointed When I Wore Dreadlocks” – Kubi Brown
Fast-rising Ghanaian artiste Kubi Brown has opened up about the struggles and triumphs shaping his music journey, revealing the special role his mother played in motivating him, and how a personal choice created a moment of tension between them.
According to him, his mother has always been his strongest pillar of support. “My mom motivated me enough to do music. She believed in me when I was still finding my voice,” he said. Her encouragement gave him the courage to pursue music seriously and build his craft.
However, the young singer admitted that their relationship was tested when he decided to wear dreadlocks. Coming from a respected family background, his mother — and even people from his hometown — felt dreadlocks did not reflect the noble values he was raised with. “She was disappointed when I wore dreadlocks because we are from a noble home and every person from my hometown will testify,” Kubi Brown shared.
Despite the criticism, the artiste believes dreadlocks represent far more than just a hairstyle. For him, it’s about uniqueness, creativity, and cultural identity. “I need to educate her about the reasons behind my dreadlocks. That’s my uniqueness as an artist. It’s part of my identity, and it tells my story,” he explained.
Kubi Brown emphasized that being an artiste goes beyond making music — it is also about personal expression and authenticity. He hopes that, in time, his mother and community will better understand the deeper meaning behind his choice.
With passion, resilience, and respect for his roots, Kubi Brown continues to strike a balance between his background and his artistic journey — proving that every creative has a story worth telling through both music and personal identity.
